We put two Finland books on this USMBOOKS web page because they are inter-related to Finland during World War II. Karelien is an outstanding photo documentary of Finland's war effort on their eastern front. The Lappland book is a superbly illustrated view of the conditions German Gebirgsjaeger and Waffen-SS troops faced in winter in Finland.

Karelien - Finnlands Bollwerk gegen den Osten (Karelia - Finland's Stronghold Against the East) is a 5-¾ x 9 inch, 96 page hard cover book by Yjrö Grönhagen that was printed by Müller Verlag in Dresden in 1942. The introduction in this German language book explains that the Karelia area in eastern Finland was in need of iron-fisted protection from the Soviet Union which had taken parts of it during the winter of 1939/40.
The book contains two maps, one of them showing national borders, railroads and highways, borders moved as a result of the war, 1940/1941 repaired highways. There are 32 pages with photos of the local people (beautiful women and sturdy men), architecture, landscapes as well as famous Finnish Marshal Mannerheim with his Generals, Finnish pilots and soldiers, armor, artillery, flak and motorized troops and some of the destruction caused by the Soviet Army.
A rare original Third Reich book in good used condition. The spine and cover show wear, the internal pages are in very good condition. No odor.
Winteralltag im Urwald Lapplands (Every Day Life in the Winter Primeval Forests of Lapland) is a hard cover Nazi book with illustrations by Kurt Kranz that portrays life of Wehrmacht soldiers at the front in the Finland's north. The 9-½ x 9-¾ inch, 84 page book was published by Wilhelm Limpert-Verlag of Berlin in 1944 and still has its original dust jacket.
The illustrations by Kurt Kranz are fantastic - armed Wehrmacht soldiers with skis, bundled up against the cold; Gebirgsjäger trying to stay warm and eating in their barracks; capturing Soviet soldiers; building fortifications in the deep snow; naked Wehrmacht soldiers in the snow after a sauna; Wehrmacht soldiers writing and receiving letters; Skispähtruppen and more.
The book only contains two pages of text by Hauptmann Dr. Ruppert, the leader of a Propaganda-Kompanie or War Correspondent outfit. He describes the bitter cold conditions in winter and incredibly hot and muggy summer days at the Lapland front that Wehrmacht soldiers had to endure, far away from home.
This 1944 example of Winteralltag im Urwald Lapplands is in very good used condition with original dust jacket in nice used condition. No odor.
